When Isaac entered the bedroom he found Tom exactly as he had ordered—on his belly with his legs and arms spread out. Passive. Open and available. Tom lifted his head to look at his lover, but Isaac told him not to, so he stopped.

“Lift your arse.” Isaac shoved a pillow under his lover’s belly, studied the result for a few seconds, wasn’t quite happy and took another pillow. He gave a couple more instructions, changed a few things, and changed them back again until he was satisfied Tom’s erection was still within reach. “Perfect target for my aim and, just as importantly, I can get to all relevant parts.” To demonstrate this fact, he took Tom’s erection in his hand and stroked a few times up and down.

Tom shivered, but remained silent.

“I haven’t ordered you to be quiet.”

“I don’t know what to say.”

Isaac kissed the nape of Tom’s neck. “I’m going to bind you again. Is there anything you want to say or ask? Anything I need to know?”

“I might not want you to stop when I ask you to stop?”

“I’m not sure if I can promise you that.” Isaac fastened the cuffs around Tom’s wrists, then those around his ankles, to the bed. “To be very honest, I’m not even sure if I understand your words, though I think I do.”

Perhaps it was easier for Tom to talk because Isaac wasn’t looking at him, busy as he was with the leather straps. “Not all pain is created equal and in some situations not every no means no, if that makes any sense.”

How was Isaac supposed to know the difference, to understand the language of a people and a lifestyle he was hardly interested in? He wasn’t going to judge his lover for any of it, regardless of what it was he needed, if only because he knew Tommy wouldn’t judge him for his own, just as deeply felt, need to make his boyfriend happy. Perhaps even beyond what was supposed to be good and healthy in a relationship between equals. He just wasn’t sure he understood it enough to be able to stop right on time, and not too soon or too late.

But perhaps it didn’t matter, because they both knew that Isaac would never hurt Tom on purpose and a mistake was easy enough to forgive between lovers.

“A safety word would make it, God, I don’t know…” Tom hesitated. “Too much about BDSM, I guess. Something this isn’t?”

Isaac sat next to his bound lover on the bed, using one finger to follow the lines of the inked pattern of a brightly coloured bird with outstretched wings. The tattoo covered the upper half of Tom’s back. “Pain is relative.”

Tom chuckled. “Something like that, yes.”
